Microsoft's latest Copilot Studio update says Foundry IQ integration is generally available. It describes reusing a knowledge base across agents, configuring retrieval scope, producing cited responses, and connecting through private networking.
Reuse is not unrestricted access
A common knowledge base can reduce duplicated setup, but different agents may need different sources. An HR assistant, sales assistant, and external customer bot should not automatically share the same retrieval scope.
Define which identity is used to retrieve information and how source permissions are enforced. Test with accounts that have deliberately different access.
Check whether citations support the answer
A response can include a citation while drawing a conclusion the cited document does not support. Evaluate source relevance, freshness, and whether a reviewer can locate the evidence behind an important claim.
Include conflicting and outdated documents in testing. Decide which source takes precedence and what the agent should do when the evidence is insufficient.
Operate the knowledge layer
Assign owners for source onboarding, document retirement, and indexing failures. Monitor whether permissions or source changes are reflected quickly enough for the use case.
Private networking can address network isolation requirements, but it does not by itself solve document quality or application authorization. Confirm the full security and data path rather than treating one deployment feature as complete assurance.
The value of a reusable knowledge platform is consistent, supportable access to appropriate evidence. Measure that outcome, not just the number of documents connected or the apparent confidence of the generated answer.
